Bhubaneswar, 17 September (IANS) has broken the mystery behind the disappearance of a female traffic constable from Bhubaneswar, which was missing since 6 September, informed by Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Dutt Singh on Wednesday.
Talking to media persons, Singh revealed that 25 -year -old victim, Subhamitra Sahu, a resident of Pichukuli in Khadkha district, was murdered by her husband Deepak Kumar Rout, a constable of the Commission police, who buried his body in a different place in a forest in a forest near the Kenjahan area.
The Police Commissioner said that the victim had participated in his duty on 6 September, while a missing report about his disappearance was registered at the Rajdhani Police Station here on 7 September, as she did not return home after duty. The police later started an intensive search operation to locate the missing Lady Constable.
Singh further stated that the victim, Subhamitra married accused Deepak on 23 July 2024. During Subhamitra’s chat examination, the police found that she was in depression and expressing her intentions to go to hide a week ago. Singh told reporters that the police also discovered various religious places as they were planning to visit pilgrimage sites like Banaras, Mathura, etc.
The commission police also announced a cash reward for any reliable information on Submitra Sahu. “On September 17, Deepak Rout was called to the Rajdhani Police Station for questioning. During continuous interrogation, he confessed to having a relationship with Subhmita for more than a year in July 2024 and demanded Rs 20,00,000 to operate as a operation to involve disputes on financial matters.
Accused Deepak also admitted during interrogation that on 6 September, he picked up Subhmitra from his workplace in his Honda City Car (Reg. Number OD-02-8494) and strangled the Unit-VI area between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. He later settled his body in the forest in Kenjhar district.
During a conversation with the media, the Police Commissioner said that further investigation was underway to ascertain other possible angles of murder, including suspicion that the accused was planning to claim insurance money after the murder of Subhamitra.
Meanwhile, the police, during visual entertainment, incited Subhmita’s body from a gun bag after digging into a forest in Ghatgaon in Keonjhar. Based on their confession and assistant evidence, a case (535/25) has been registered under Section 103 (1) and 238 BNS in the Capital Police Station. Accused Deepak Kumar Root has been arrested in the case.
