Bhubaneswar, Nov 9 (IANS) Ahead of the by-election for Nuapada Assembly constituency on November 11, former chief minister and Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik on Sunday claimed that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s defeat will start from Nuapada.
In a video message released on Sunday, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Patnaik said, “Ever since the BJP formed the government in the state, atrocities against women have increased manifold. Women are being harassed under the Mission Shakti programme, and the good name of Odisha is being tarnished.”
He further said, “They have closed Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, causing problems to patients. This government is against women, tribals and development. Your support will be the beginning of BJP’s defeat from Nuapada.”
He also urged the people of Nuapada assembly constituency to ensure that they cast their vote in favor of BJD to ensure victory of party candidate Snehangini Churiya in the by-election. The BJD supremo also promised the people that he would work for Odisha till his last breath.
Former CM Patnaik said, “I urge you to bless BJD candidate Snehangini Churiya by casting your vote in favor of BJD on the polling day on November 11. I promise to serve mother Odisha and all its people till my last breath.”
He also thanked the people of Nuapada for coming in large numbers to his public meetings and road shows organized at Khariar Road, Komna and Nuapada during the campaign.
It is noteworthy that the campaign for Nuapada by-election ended on Sunday.
Voting for the by-election is to be held on November 11.
During the intensive campaign in Nuapada assembly constituency, leaders of three major political parties left no stone unturned to woo the voters.
It is noteworthy that this is the first by-election after the formation of BJP government in the state.
Nuapada assembly constituency had fallen vacant after the death of senior BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8.
