Odisha: IMD warns of heavy rains, strong winds in the Bay of Bengal as depression

Bhubaneswar, 1 October (IANS) Meteorological Department of India (IMD) on Wednesday issued warnings of very heavy rainfall with strong and strong wind speed reaching 50 km/h at several places in the state for the next few days due to the fresh low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.

In its latest bulletin, IMD has informed that the well-marked low-pressure area intensified into a depression and focused in the west-central Gulf of Bengal, away from the Odisha-half state coast.

The agency further estimated that the system would further intensify a deep depression and cross the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coast on 3 October.

The IMD forecast said, “It is very likely to continue to move towards North -West, cross a deep depression and Odisha and cross the nearest coasts of Andhra Pradesh between Gopalpur and Pardip during the morning of 3 October.”

The agency predicted heavy rainfall in different districts in different parts of the state over the next few days.

The IMD has issued a red warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall with electricity with lightning and thunder with electricity with lightning of surface air speeds to be at one or two places on the coastal districts of Jagat Singhpur and Puri on 2 October.

Similarly, an orange alert has been issued about very heavy rainfall at different places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Nayagarh, Nayagarh, GANJAM, GANJAM, GANJAM, GANJAM, GANJAM, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, and Dhenkanal Districts on Thursday.

Meanwhile, IMD issued an orange warning about heavy to heavy rains at some places in the districts of Nabrangpur, Nupada and Bargarh in October.

The low pressure system is likely to bring heavy rainfall throughout the state during the above period.

The IMD has advised the residents of the districts to closely monitor the weather conditions under red and orange warnings and be prepared to go to safe places if necessary. It has also recommended suspension of fishing operations and movement of ships in affected areas.
