Bhubaneswar, Oct 21 (IANS) Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Tuesday stressed on conducting peaceful, transparent, free and fair by-election for the vacant Nuapada Assembly constituency.

During a high-level meeting of senior police officers held in Cuttack, DGP Khurania reviewed the security preparations for the upcoming Nuapada by-election and stressed the need to ensure its free and fair conduct.

He directed the officials to strictly follow the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) guidelines and make adequate security arrangements for VIPs and VVIPs during the by-elections.

Odisha DGP also directed that preventive action under sections 110 and 107 of CrPC be intensified, including arresting suspected persons, curbing illegal cash transactions, seizing illegal weapons and liquor and executing all pending non-bailable warrants to ensure strict law and order.

During the meeting it was also emphasized that mobile patrolling and flying squad operations should be strengthened and check posts should be established at all entry points of the constituency for thorough checking of suspicious persons and vehicles.

Important intelligence information related to the by-elections was shared in the high level meeting.

Range Deputy Inspectors General and District Superintendents of Police were advised to keep a close watch on the law and order situation in their respective districts.

To prevent possible Maoist activities during the by-elections, ADGP (Operations) Sanjib Panda said that search operations and anti-Maoist operations will be intensified in Maoist-affected areas of the district.

He said that all related operational plans have been finalized.

For the smooth conduct of elections, 14 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, five platoons of Odisha State Armed Police and Reserve Police Force, 35 mobile patrol parties, 18 flying squads, 18 static surveillance teams, along with district police officers and personnel, will be deployed in Nuapada for the by-election.
