Odisha: CM Mohan Majhi expresses grief over the landslide and flood deaths; Announces assistance

Bhubaneswar, 3 October (IANS) Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over the death of two persons caused by floods on Friday and on 2 October there was a landslide due to heavy rains in Gajapati district.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Trinath Nayak of Bastriguda Gram Panchayat and Laxman Nayak of Meripalli Gram Panchayat lost their lives in separate incidents of floods and landslides after continuous rains in the area.

“After knowing about the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep grief and directed the District Collector of Gajapati to provide a pre-Rs 4 lakhs for the next family members from the state’s disaster response fund (SDRF),” CMO informed.

On October 2, heavy rains caused widespread damage in various parts of Gajapati district, including landslides, flash floods and road obstacles in various parts of Gajapati district due to low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.

In such an incident, R.A. at around 4.30 pm on Thursday. A landslide occurred in Bestiguda village under the border of Udayagiri police, claiming the life of 50 -year -old Trinath Nayak, a resident of the village.

Similarly, on Thursday evening, while trying to save his calf, 40 -year -old Laxman Mallik of the village in Mohana area of ​​Gajapati district washed away due to heavy flow of water in Ludru Nala. His body was recovered from Ludru Nala water on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, despite more than 24 hours of lapse, rescue teams have not yet been detected about the village of 35 -year -old Rajika Sabar and her elderly father Karthik Sabar Gajapati’s village, who were reportedly trapped under the debris during a large -scale landslide near the village.

Police sources claimed that the father and son pair had gone to agriculture for work on Thursday morning.

Landslide occurred near his area at around 1.30 pm

As they did not return, the villagers suspect that they would have been buried due to landslides. Meanwhile, some also suspect that they may disappear near the drain due to floods.

A low pressure area away from the Odisha coast received heavy rains in many parts of the state on Thursday.
