Bhubaneswar, 7 October (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep grief over the murder of senior advocate and BJP leader Pitbas Panda in Berhampur on Tuesday.
Condemning the heinous act strongly, the Chief Minister directed the police administration to identify and include the culprit as soon as possible and ensure exemplary punishment against the people involved.
CM Maji also said that Odisha is a peaceful state, and under no circumstances such “barbaric” and “inhuman” events will not be tolerated.
The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family of the late BJP leader.
For Odisha, BJP cum-Bhari, Lata Usendi strongly condemned the brutal murder of a senior advocate and BJP leader in Balrampur.
He said, “The murder of a senior advocate and BJP leader is very disturbing. Such incidents not only reflect the deteriorating law and order situation, but also the social environment. The government should take strict and immediate action against those responsible for this heinous act. Already, our CM has made a stand on it.
Meanwhile, the opposition Biju Janata Dal condemned the murder of a senior advocate and BJP leader.
Speaking to IANS, BJD leader Bhrigu Bauxipatra on Tuesday called Panda’s murder as a serious and sensitive incident.
He also targeted the state government, alleging that cases of violence against women, murders are taking place almost every day in the entire state, which indicates the law and order situation in Odisha.
Since the Bharatiya Janata Party government came to power, we want to reiterate that the law and order in the state of Odisha has become completely paralyzed. During the last 16 months, there have been 128 murders in Ganjam district, which have been three murders under the single 24 hours. Or check it properly, “Bauxipatra said.
The BJD leader said, “The BJD is requesting the state government before the state government last year to bring the law-and-order situation in the state.”
Panda was shot dead by an unidentified bike-borne attackers near his residence in Bakunthanagar under Beidanathpur police station area of Berhampur city of Ganjam district late Monday evening.
Two bike-related miscreants approached him while waiting for the victim near his residence and fired two rounds from two rounds before running away from the scene at around 10 pm last night.
The senior advocate retained serious bullet wounds in his chest. Some local people immediately rushed the seriously injured lawyer to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, where doctors declared him dead.
