Bhubaneswar, Nov 3 (IANS) Former Odisha chief minister and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik on Monday campaigned for the Nuapada bypoll and launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a massive public meeting in Komna block of Nuapada district.
The BJD supremo alleged, “BJP formed the government in the state through ‘vote theft’. Now, it has stolen our candidate. This is Biju Janata Dal’s betrayal of the people of Nuapada. There is deep anger among the people about this. The people of Nuapada will give a befitting reply to this betrayal through their votes.”
In his address, Patnaik also hit out at the BJP government, alleging that all the development works started by the previous BJD government have come to a complete halt across the state under the current BJP government.
“The law and order situation in the state has completely broken down and incidents of atrocities against women have crossed all limits. Odisha, which was once known as the land of brotherhood and harmony, has lost its glory,” he alleged.
Patnaik said that under the ‘Mission Shakti’ initiative, mothers have brought about a silent revolution in Odisha. He alleged that these ‘Mission Shakti’ members are not getting any loans under the BJP-led Odisha government.
Similarly, he said that the workers of ‘Mission Shakti’ have not received their remuneration for the last eight months.
LOP Patnaik alleged, “This government is only engaged in false propaganda. Hero in propaganda, but zero in performance. The present state government is not a ‘game changer’ but a name changer, a government that only portrays things.”
The BJD president also questioned the government on its unfulfilled promises, including 300 units of free electricity, pension of Rs 3,500 for all elderly people, employment to 100 youth in every panchayat, timely supply of urea fertilizer to farmers, eliminating the menace of ‘Katni Chutney’, illegal deduction during procurement of crops.
Former CM Patnaik urged the people of Nuapada to vote in favor of BJD candidate Snehangini Chhuria for the Nuapada by-election to be held on November 11.
