Bhubaneswar, Oct 16 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday sounded the election bugle for the crucial Nuapada bypoll and claimed that the double engine government at the Center and the state is working hard to take the development of Nuapada district to new heights.
Addressing a large gathering at the Bijay Sankalp Samabesh in Nuapada, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reiterated his earlier assurance that he would personally take responsibility for the development of the district and transform it from one of the most backward districts to one of the most developed in the state.
Highlighting the recent development initiatives by the state government, Majhi also said that to fulfill his pledge, he has recently announced the inauguration and foundation stone laying of projects worth more than Rs 1101 crore in Nuapada district alone.
He said that the state government has gifted projects worth Rs 1400 crore to Nuapada district in the last 16 months.
The Chief Minister emphasized that unlike the previous BJD government, the ruling BJP always fulfills its promises made to the people. He also said that the party fulfilled its promise made to the people during the elections by implementing Subhadra Yojana within 24 minutes of coming to power and deciding to increase the total MSP on paddy to Rs 3100 per quintal under the Samriddh Krishak Yojana.
Taking a dig at BJD supremo and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister Majhi alleged that the former leader used to assure people during every election in the past that he would take responsibility for the development of a particular area, but would forget his promises and responsibilities soon after winning.
He said BJP candidate Jai Dholakia would work tirelessly to complete the unfinished work of his father and former BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia, whose sudden demise on September 8 necessitated the by-election in Nuapada.
The Chief Minister also criticized BJD leaders for making personal attacks on Jai Dholakia after he left the party and joined the ruling BJP.
He expressed surprise that BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik did not condemn the personal attacks by his party colleagues. Majhi said that the voters of Nuapada will give a befitting reply to this in the by-election.
Chief Minister Majhi ruled out a triangular contest in the by-elections and said that the real fight would be between BJP and Congress.
He urged the party workers of the district to dedicate themselves fully to ensure victory in the upcoming Nuapada by-election. Many workers and leaders of BJD and Congress parties joined BJP during a grand program in Nuapada on Thursday.
