With Gautam Gambhir returning to Kolkata Knight Riders, expectations are high on the team ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Under Gambhir’s leadership, KKR won their only two IPL titles. With the former India opener returning as a mentor, the management expects the arrangement to work wonders. Gambhir is the kind of guy who always puts the team over personal milestones. In a chat after arriving in Kolkata, the 2011 World Cup-winning cricketer called former KKR star Ryan Ten Dochate the “greatest team player” he has ever encountered.
Gambhir has rubbed shoulders with some of the best “team players” in the game. Be it MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli. But, this is the former Dutch batsman.
“When I talk about selflessness, I’ve never said anything like this in my 42-year career, and I want to say this. He’s the greatest team player, the most selfless person I’ve ever worked with, and I can stand up for him. Bullet man, someone I can trust for life and I can tell you this since my first game as KKR captain in 2011.

“We only had four overseas players and this guy had an unbelievable 50-plus game in the World Cup and we went into that tournament with only three overseas players and he was holding a drink in that game with his face There was no disappointment in me. He taught me selflessness. Ryan Ten Duchardt. Those are the people who made me a leader,” Gambhir revealed.
During the event, Gambhir also said: “I did not make Kolkata Knight Riders successful, it was KKR that made me a successful leader.”
