Itanagar, Oct 30 (IANS) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General KT Parnaik (Retd) on Thursday said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the entire North-Eastern region is witnessing a golden era of development, inspired by his action-oriented and result-based ‘Act East Policy’.
Addressing the first convocation of Arunachal Pradesh University as the chief guest, the Governor said that the vision and initiative of the Prime Minister has provided unprecedented financial and infrastructural support to the state. Urging that this progress should not be undermined by selfish motives or personal interests, he called upon all to maintain honesty, impartiality and selfless service, especially towards the people of marginal and border areas.
The Governor advised the graduating students to let transparency guide their actions, integrity shape their decisions, and professionalism define their conduct, reminding them that true success lies not only in what one achieves but also in how it is achieved.
He said that the Prime Minister’s call for a developed India by 2047 is a collective mission based on innovation, integrity and leadership of the youth.
Lieutenant General Paranayak said the newly established Arunachal Pradesh University stands at a defining moment with an opportunity to learn from global institutions while building an education model rooted in local values and aspirations. He emphasized that research and innovation should form the soul of the university, fostering curiosity, critical thinking and the courage to ask transformative questions.
“True education, as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, must go beyond classrooms and textbooks to shape character, inculcate courage and inculcate compassion,” he said. The Governor also highlighted that the NEP places teachers at the center of educational reforms, recognizing them as true nation-builders who shape the future of the society. He urged that teachers should be respected, empowered and inspired to guide future generations and help build a strong, enlightened India.
Outlining his decadal vision for the university, the Governor said it should develop into a model of academic excellence and human development. He encouraged initiatives like village adoption, cleanliness drive, anti-drug campaign and women and child health programs to promote social responsibility among the students.
Expressing happiness that 66 per cent of the successful candidates and almost all the toppers were girl students, Lieutenant General Paranayak said this reflected the spirit of women empowerment and the changing social fabric of Arunachal Pradesh.
As Chancellor of the University, the Governor also proposed to set up a Center of Excellence for Tribal Studies to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Arunachal and a community radio station to promote people’s voice, awareness, education and positive storytelling across the region.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor of Arunachal Pradesh University, Prof. Volume Riba and Registrar MA Darang are also present.
