Norman Tabbit Death: Chief Minister in the Thaccher government dies at the age of 94

Conservative Grand, who served as Employment Secretary and Conservative Party President in the 1980s, played an important role in Tory politics for a generation.

As Employment Secretary, he took over trade unions, and as the President of the Conservative Party from 1985 to 1987, he helped Mrs. Thatcher secure her third general election victory.

He suffered serious injuries in the Grand Hotel’s Ira’s bombing in Brighton in 1984, which paralyzed his wife, Margaret below the neck.

Former Tory Cabinet Minister Simon Clarke paid tribute to following the news of his death, describing him as a “political giant”, which “with his opponents, the militant, was fiercely loyal to his friends, who would never accept Britain in the fall”.

Lord Tabbit stepped as an MP in 1992 and then a seat at the House of Lords.

After retiring from politics three years ago, he died peacefully in his house at 11.15 am on Monday at 11.15 am.

Paying tribute to the former Tory Cabinet Minister, who launched a campaign against integration with Europe, the Euroseptic Think Tank Brugs Group said: “Today we mourn the loss of a political Titan, without which the Thacher revolution can look very different.

“A emotional euroseptic, Lord Tabbit also served as the president of the Brugs Group, who leads our year -long campaign against the integration of the European Union.”
