Nomination process for third phase of Lok Sabha polls begins

New Delhi:

The nomination process for the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls, which will be held on May 7 in 94 constituencies in 12 states, started on Friday.

The process started after the Election Commission issued a notification on behalf of the President. April 19 is the last date to submit documents.

The Election Commission said it had also issued another notification seeking “postponement” of polling in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul constituency.

The election to the Betul Lok Sabha seat was “postponed” following the death of the BSP candidate.

If a candidate of a recognized national or state party dies before the vote, the election is postponed to allow that party to identify and field a new candidate.

The second phase of voting in Betul constituency was originally scheduled to be held on April 26.

The third phase includes Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Dadhra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Kashmir States of Nataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The seven-phase voting to elect the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on April 19 and end on June 1. Counting will take place on June 4.
