Noida Police, in search of a missing college student, has uncovered a shocking crime in which four youths killed a friend and buried his body in a field after a dispute at a party.
Yash Mittal, son of a businessman and student of a Noida-based university, was missing from his hostel since Monday. His father Deepak Mittal informed the police when he started receiving ransom messages demanding Rs 6 crore in exchange for his son’s release.
When the police scanned the CCTV footage of the campus, they saw Yash leaving the university while talking on the phone on Monday. The call records of his phone led them to his friend Rachit. On interrogating him, the police came to know that Yash often roamed with Rachit, Shivam, Sushant and Shubham.
“On February 26, he called Yash to a ground in Gajraula, Amroha, Uttar Pradesh (about 100 km away) for a party. He soon joined them. During the party, a brawl broke out. He started talking to Yash. Murdered him and buried the body in the fields. We recovered the body after Rachit identified the location,” said senior police officer Saad Miya Khan.
Police found the second accused in Dadri. The accused tried to escape, but were caught by the police after an encounter. “We have arrested three accused after searching the area. Another accused, Shubham, is absconding. We will catch him soon,” the officer said.
The officer said that the accused told the police that the ransom messages were sent to mislead Yash’s family. He said the police have formed several teams to work on the case.
Scenes from the field show the child’s parents crying after their body was dug out. Police said the youth was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Noida University before his tragic death.
