Nara Lokesh, Minister of Information Technology and Human Resource Development of Andhra Pradesh, stressed the need to align infrastructure capacity with increased investment in the Visakhapatnam region, while planning a 30-year development horizon.

During his visit to Visakhapatnam today, where he launched a series of investment and infrastructure initiatives, Lokesh reviewed the preparedness of the city and directed North Andhra officials to prepare a time-bound, future-ready infrastructure blueprint for the region.

Chairing a high-level review meeting with district collectors, senior officials and public representatives at the Visakhapatnam Collectorate, Lokesh directed, “Large-scale investment is coming into the Vizag region. Prepare focused infrastructure plans and execute them in mission mode – without causing inconvenience to the public.”

Highlighting the importance of visionary urban mobility, Lokesh clarified that Visakhapatnam should avoid the pitfalls of other major metros.

“Vizag should not face the traffic chaos of Bengaluru or Pune. Plan for wide roads and high-capacity corridors now,” he said, directing officials to prioritize corridor-based development and junction upgrades to reduce traffic congestion.

The minister called for an integrated, long-term master plan that anticipates demographic expansion, industrial growth and logistics needs in Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.

“Think 30 years ahead. Prepare comprehensive plans and ensure seamless coordination between officials and elected representatives to deliver visible results,” he said.

Underscoring the government’s employment-first agenda, Lokesh reaffirmed the target of creating five lakh employment opportunities through upcoming industrial projects – including a major steel plant and several large-scale investments setting up operations in the region.

“This is a once-in-a-generation development opportunity. Convert it into jobs and inclusive growth,” he said.

To accelerate technology-driven development, Lokesh directed officials to identify and prepare land banks for IT parks across the region.

“Develop shovel-ready sites so investors can plug in and start construction without delay,” he advised.

He also stressed on the importance of citizen convenience and transparent governance.

“Decisions should be quick, transparent and people-friendly. Progress should be made without creating inconvenience,” Lokesh said, calling for synchronous implementation and regular progress reviews.

Regional development, industrial flows, infrastructure preparation and urban mobility projects were reviewed in the meeting. Officials were directed to finalize the design of the corridor, prepare a phased road-widening plan and secure land parcels for key public infrastructure.
