New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday slammed Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for his controversial comment, “If you ask PM Modi to dance for your votes, he will do it”. He said that no responsible political leader would use such language.
Speaking to IANS, Kiren Rijiju said, “I have heard that Rahul Gandhi has once again made such comments about the Prime Minister, which have embarrassed even Congress members. The words he has used have caused great harm to his own party. Even good people within the Congress feel ashamed, because no responsible leader would use such language.”
He said, “The people of Bihar will not vote for him and he will not come to power. Since he lacks ideology and talks like this. Therefore, how can the country accept such leaders?”
Addressing an election rally in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur on Wednesday, LoP Gandhi had launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and accused them of betraying the youth and turning governance into “political theatre”.
He also criticized the Prime Minister’s symbolic ‘Yamuna bath’ during Chhath Puja, calling it a staged photo opportunity.
LoP Gandhi said, “There was no Yamuna ji there – just a pond filled with clean water for Modi ji. Clean water was brought through pipes for his photo-op, whereas real India bathes in polluted water.”
“If you ask Modi ji to dance for your vote, he will do it. Try – say, ‘Modi ji, don’t give a speech, just dance, and we will vote for you.’ He will dance,” the Congress leader said.
Gandhi also accused the BJP of avoiding caste census and opposing social justice.
He said, “I asked the Prime Minister in Parliament to conduct a caste census. He did not say a single word. Wherever you look – in education, health, bureaucracy or judiciary – the BJP is against social justice. But the caste census will happen, whether they like it or not.”
Reacting to this, Union Minister Giriraj Singh had alleged on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi’s remarks have insulted Sanatan Dharma and the faith of millions of Hindus.
Singh said, “Rahul Gandhi himself does not know whether he is a Parsi, a Christian or a Hindu. His comments on Chhath and the Prime Minister are an insult to Sanatan Dharma and Hindus. The people of Bihar will give him a befitting reply.”
He further warned that mocking religious traditions will not be tolerated.
Singh said, “We will not accept insult to Chhath and Sanatan Dharma. People will respond to bricks with stones.”
