Mumbai, Nov 11 (IANS) Ahead of the local body elections, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) constituents, including Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP), met and announced that there is no proposal yet to include Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in the alliance. State Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal also said, “I have already said as state president that we will take the decision through discussion.” His statement came a day after local leaders on Monday announced the party had ruled out any alliance with the MNS for the local and civic body elections in Nashik. MNS chief Raj Thackeray was part of the opposition delegation that recently met the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and State Election Commissioner (SEC) to highlight errors in the voter list, especially with regard to duplicate and fake voters. The MNS chief was also present in the opposition protest organized on November 1 on this issue. However, Sapkal decided to keep himself away from the front and his absence was conspicuous during the meetings with the CEO and the SEC. Congress insiders said that the decision to bring MNS along will be taken after the results of Bihar assembly elections. After the meeting, state NCP chief Shashikant Shinde told reporters, “So far, no such proposal to include MNS has come before Maha Vikas Aghadi. If any such proposal comes, we will sit together and discuss and take a decision.” Shinde and Sapkal’s statements assume significance as Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has already announced that he and MNS chief Raj Thackeray have come together to live together and hinted that they will contest the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections together. Apart from Shinde and Sapkal, NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule and Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Anil Parab were also present in the MVA meeting. On the issue of contesting local and civic body elections in an alliance of MVA allies, Sapkal told reporters, “In today’s meeting it was decided that if there are any differences within the MVA or there is a need to discuss the candidates, a coordination committee will be formed and it will be authorized to take decisions. “There will be a state-level coordination committee of our allies and Maha Vikas Aghadi and coordinators from each party will be in it. If there is any difficulty or disagreement then this committee will be given the authority to find a way out and take a decision. In today’s meeting, there was a detailed discussion on how to face the upcoming elections. Sapkal further said, “We are together in the form of Maha Vikas Aghadi and Bharat Alliance. We have fought the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections together. We are ready to fight elections together in future too. We are working hand in hand to counter BJP in the state and country. Sapkal said, “The last date for filing nominations for Nagar Panchayat and Municipal elections is November 17. After that we will come together again and discuss. If any proposal comes regarding MNS at that time, we will discuss it.” –IANS SJ/Red
