Chennai:
Putting an end to week-long speculation, three-time Congress MLA from Tamil Nadu S Vijayadharani joined the BJP today. S Vijayadharani joined the BJP in Delhi in the presence of Union Minister L Murugan and party national secretary Arvind Menon, who is in-charge of Tamil Nadu elections.

He stressed that his move would strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hold in the southern state. S Vijayadharani comes from the family of the famous Tamil poet, late Kavimani Desiga Vinayagam Pillai.
Ms Vijayadharani praised the Central government for various good schemes and regretted that some of them were not being implemented in Tamil Nadu, where Congress ally DMK is in power.
Praising BJP’s focus on women, she said that a lot of great things are happening in the country.
Before joining BJP, he had posted his resignation letter from Congress on X. Her post read, “I am resigning from primary membership and related posts in the Congress Party.”

S Vijayadharani, a sitting MLA from Vilavancode, a constituency from which the BJP has won in the past, was apparently upset that neither the Congress nor the Congress considered her for a parliamentary seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He made him the leader of the legislative party. The grand old party recently appointed MLA K Selvaperunthagai as the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president.
Reason for leaving Congress
“Women are not given leadership roles in the Congress. Even now, someone who is junior to me has been made the legislature party leader. With the support of the Central government, I will now be able to meet the infrastructure needs of Kanniyakumari. ” S Vijaydharani said.
S Vijayadharani’s entry into the BJP has come as a boost as it had recently suffered a setback after the AIADMK broke ties with it. In the 2019 general elections, BJP was unable to win even a single seat out of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu.
However, BJP has a large presence in Kanniyakumari. However, observers say that his switch will not bring votes to the BJP as his win from the Congress was possible only because of the alliance with the DMK.
There is speculation that S Vijayadharani may be the BJP candidate from Nagercoil Lok Sabha constituency. The BJP, which has a negligible presence in the state, is counting on its state chief Annamalai’s padayatra to expand its footprint in the state, even as it tries to form an alliance with some smaller parties.
Vijayadharani, who is also a successful lawyer, is the first sitting MLA to join the BJP.
She was first elected from the Vilavancode assembly constituency in 2011 and emerged victorious in the 2016 and 2021 elections.
Before joining the BJP, the 54-year-old leader was the general secretary of the AICC and chief whip of the Congress Legislature Party in the Assembly.
