Chandigarh:
Haryana Assembly Speaker Gyan Chand Gupta today accepted the no-confidence motion moved by the main opposition Congress against the Manohar Lal Khattar government.
The Speaker fixed the time for the debate on Thursday.
Mr Gupta accepted the no-confidence motion after counting more than 18 MLAs as required under the rules.
Recently, Leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly Bhupinder Singh Hooda had accused the Khattar government of failing on every front. He had recently said that Congress would bring a no-confidence motion during the session.
Congress had also brought a no-confidence motion against the BJP-JJP government three years ago but it was defeated.
Chief Minister Manohar Khattar, recently referring to the previous no-confidence motion, had said that he had challenged the opposition that they will have to move such a motion during every session so that they can hear about the work done by his government. Otherwise, they speak without listening, he said.
If the Congress brings the no-confidence motion again, they will be forced to hear about the work done by the government, Mr Khattar had said.
BJP has 41 MLAs in the 90-member House while its alliance partner Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) has 10 MLAs.
Six of the seven independent members in the House support the BJP, which also has the support of Haryana Lokhit Party’s lone MLA Gopal Kanda.
The main opposition Congress has 30 MLAs while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has one MLA.
