Nine Assam Constable workers were killed as arches collapse at the Thermal Power Station in Chennai

Chennai, September 30 (IANS) A regular installation job became fatal on Tuesday when Annor Special Economic Zone (SEZ) thermal power project collapsed on a large -scale steel arc, killing nine contractual workers from Assam and injured.

It took place in stage 4 section of the tragedy plant, where 10 workers were fitting a steel arc cover above a coal handling unit.

The structure designed to mold coal stockpiles gave a sudden way, allowing all 10 men to be demolished.

Additional Chief Secretary and State Health Spokesperson J. J., Tamil Nadu. Radhakrishnan said, “Despite security facilities like belt, they suddenly fell. Nine was brought to the hospital of Stanley Medical College. A worker survived friction and lacquer; his condition is not important.”

The bodies of the deceased were brought to Stanley Hospital and transferred to Morchery for post -mortem.

Hospital officials identified the victims as Munnakempri, Videm Prashant, Sumon Karikap, Deepak Rizung, Sarabjit Thosen, Panto Sorong, Paban Sorong, Fibit Fongo and Bimraj Thosen.

All the contractual workers were hired through a sub -conductor of Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL).

Radhakrishnan, who visited the hospital, said that the state government is coordinating with BHEL security officials.

He said, “While security measures were allegedly, sudden collapse gave him a very little chance to survive. Whatever help is needed from the government, it will be extended,” he said, the state is working to inform the families and arranging to take the bodies back to Assam.

Ennore SEZ Thermal Power Project is a 2 × 660 MW capacity plant under phased construction.

Steps 1, 2, and 3 are on, while Stage 4 – Where the accident occurred – 70 percent is full and is still under heavy work.

Officials estimate that around 3,200 workers, mostly guest laborers from various states are on the daily site.

Police and security inspectors are investigating the cause of collapse and whether the structure meets compulsory standards.

Meanwhile, security at Stanley Hospital has been carried forward as the family and labor unions representatives are ready to arrive.

The accident has raised immediate questions about safety monitoring in large -scale industrial projects, where migrants make the backbone of the workforce.
