Victor Boniface registered an assist to help his club-side, Union Saint-Gilloise defeat Union Berlin 3-0 and thereby make it into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.
He was actually looking to score his 20th goal of the season even as Saint-Gilloise aimed to reach the round of eight of the Europa League by defeating Union on Thursday night.
Boniface registered his name on the score-sheet twice to help Saint-Gilloise play out to a 3-3 draw with Union in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie which was played last week.
The former Nigeria U-20 international replaced Gustaf Nilsson in attack when USG went head-to-head with Union and he made it count as he helped his side open their goals account on the night with an assist from Yorbe Vertessen.
Twenty-eight minutes into the game, Boniface scored his first goal which was such a beauty to behold. That was after he had found space outside the box and then shot into the upper right corner.
Boniface thereafter put USG 3-2 ahead on 72 minutes after being set up by Bart Nieuwkoop. He scored with a shot past Frederik Rennow. Sven Michel then came off the bench to tie the game.
He emerged as the Europa League Player of the Week and on Thursday, he set up Jean Thierry Lazare Amani to score USG’s second goal against Union on 63 minutes before he was replaced with Casper Terho on 90 minutes.
Boniface has netted 14 times in 38 games since joining USG during the summer transfer window of last year. But for both USG and Bodø/Glimt, he has 19 goals in 42 matches.
