Nigel Benn Shortly after Connor Benn’s win the rivalry with the Eubanks family threatened to be reignited as he began making fiery comments about “Prat” Chris Eubanks Sr.
Ben watched his son Connor put in a brilliant performance against Chris Eubank Jr at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, winning a unanimous decision that was 35 years in the making.
Eubank senior won the first meeting in 1990, before two-time world champion Benn was upset in a controversial draw at Old Trafford three years later.
When his son lost to Eubank Jr. in an April thriller, the wait for a first win in the fight grew but the 29-year-old ilford Was able to take revenge during a one-sided contest.
That pleased Nigel Benn, but the tension with his old rival was evident during a two-minute and 31-second argument after Thursday’s unexpected face-to-face clash with the pair failed to shake hands before the match.
“At the press conference…I’ll just say it right now, we went head-to-head,” 48-fight veteran Ben explained without prompting.
“He is dancing because he likes the limelight. He doesn’t care about his son, he just likes the limelight.
“And he’s dancing, he came right next to me and I was like, ‘Let me just shake your hand’, so I pulled him in for a hug and he put his hand out to me.
“And I really felt like I wanted to…so when he tried to shake my hand tonight, I was like, ‘I’m not playing your game, dude.’ I don’t think I’ll even talk to him again, because I think he’s a perfect guy.
“He’s an idiot. He tries to quote scriptures and all that, he doesn’t even know what he’s talking about.”
“I can’t understand him. When you have those two around, everything is very negative.
“First, we never talked disrespectfully about our promoters who are putting money in our banks and giving us a good life.
“We never did that frank warren Or Mickey Duff, we never fired him, but the way he (Eubank Jr.) talks eddie hernHow insulting is that? Both of them.
“And then Eubanks (Sr.) is always talking about, ‘We’re struggling at weight, they’re going to kill my son,’ man, he’s been a middleweight for how many years?
“He’s been the IBO champion, but as soon as he fights welterweight, oh, we start having problems. Always bloody whining. Always.”
“I tell you, to be honest, I’m tired of dying about them and I’m glad it’s over now. I’m glad it’s over now and we won’t hear about them anymore.”
