In the documents received by people magazineThe 44-year-old Backstreet Boys singer filed a motion requesting a hearing and asking the court to grant a summary judgment on Shannon Ruth’s claims of “sexual abuse, intentionally causing emotional distress and recklessly causing emotional distress.”

Ruth sued Carter for sexual misconduct in December 2022, alleging he assaulted her as a teenager more than 20 years earlier. She claimed that when she was 17, the 21-year-old pop star sexually assaulted her on his tour bus after a concert at the Tacoma Dome in 2001.

Ruth’s attorney Mark Boscovich told the outlet that his client “disagrees with most of the information contained in Mr. Carter’s motion for summary judgment.”

He added, “He is eager to be able to express his side of the story in opposition to her.”

Carter’s motion also names former teen singer Melissa Schuman, who accused Carter of raping her in his Santa Monica apartment in 2003, when she was 18 and he was 22.
