Nia arrested two in 2024 Puducherry bomb blast case

New Delhi, September 18 (IANS) NIA on Thursday arrested two accused in the 2023 Villianur bomb blast case, including the central jail of the central region, following extensive discoveries at four places in Pouchri.

The accused, identified as Heram aka Karthi aka TR and Udhyayakumar alias Kumar, has been arrested for leaking sensitive information, including names and other details about protected witnesses, in a case in which a political activist, Senthil Kumaran was brutally killed, an NIA statement said in an NIA statement.

The NIA on Thursday made coordinated discoveries with two other places in Central Jail Kalpet and Yanam Jail. NIA teams confiscated mobile phones, SIM cards and other increasing documents, including material revealing the identity of protected witnesses.

The investigating agency said that the lucky evening, around 9.30 am, six bike-borne attackers had thrown a country-made bomb to unconscious the victim before being killed in Villianur using matches and knives.

An investigation by the NIA revealed that the two accused arrested on Thursday confronted the other people, including the prominent accused Nithiyanandam alias Nithi, who were to get and broadcast and broadcast the protected witness’s name, identity and mobile numbers.

Nithi, along with 12 others, was charged by the NIA in the case on 21 September, 2023. While Nithi is currently registered in Yanam Jail, other accused are being held in Central Jail, Kalapet, Puducherry.

Intelligence inputs during the investigation recently indicated that Nithi and his colleagues had illegally acquired the names and identity of the protected witnesses in the bomb blast and murder case.

Information was allegedly used to threaten and force witnesses in an attempt to derail the legal process and obstruct justice.

The NIA continues with its investigation to highlight the large criminal conspiracy behind the murder, and to identify others who violated Section 17 of the NIA Act read with Section 44 of the UA (P) Act, 1967 to reveal the identity of protected witnesses and endangered their safety.
