New Delhi, October 17 (IANS) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against a migrant laborer from Bihar for supporting banned terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in carrying out terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu. The agency gave this information on Friday.
According to the NIA, “Akhlathur alias Mohammed Akhlaq Mujahid, resident of Katihar district of Bihar, has been charged under sections 196 and 197 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 13(1)(b) and 39 of the UA(P) Act in the charge sheet filed today before the NIA Special Court at Poonamallee, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The accused, employed as a laborer at a private construction site in Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu), was arrested by the Kayar, Chengalpattu police in April this year on charges of involvement in anti-national activities.
“Considering the seriousness of the case, NIA found during investigation that the accused was in touch with Lashkar-e-Taiba handlers in Pakistan through cyber space and conspired with them to target infidels (non-believers of Islam) in Tamil Nadu,” the agency said in its press note.
According to the NIA, the accused also tried to contact an arms dealer with the intention of carrying out an attack to destabilize the country.
“Investigation also revealed that Akhlattur had also tried to contact arms and ammunition dealers with the intention of purchasing arms to carry out a jihadi-style attack to destabilize the country,” the agency said.
However, NIA and other security agencies foiled his plans.
“Investigation in case RC-01/2025/NIA/CHE (Akhlathur LeT and Salafi ideologues case) is ongoing to curb radicalization and violent extremism in India,” the agency said.
Notably, the agency, a few days ago, had filed a charge sheet against eight accused persons in the 2020 international narco-terrorist network case involving smuggling of drugs from Pakistan to India via Gujarat via sea route.
The purpose of these medicines was to finance the Lashkar terrorist organization.
