New Delhi, 6 October (IANS) National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a report regarding the death of a worker within two weeks, within two weeks, the Chairman of the Airport Authority (AAI) and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Unit of IGI Airport, the President of Delhi, the death of a worker, which fell from a height of about 10 feet during the construction of Indera Ginhi (IGI) airplane.
Apex Human Rights Body took the cognizance of a media report, alleging that efforts were made to suppress the incident by removing blood stains from the site.
In a press statement, NHRC noticed the contents of the report, if true, raises a serious issue of human rights violations.
It has sought details about the compensation status, if any, the family of the deceased worker has been paid.
The apex human rights body has issued notice to AAI President and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Unit of IGI Airport, Delhi, demanded a detailed report within two weeks.
According to a media report published on 25 September, the injured worker was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors killed him. A case has been registered due to death due to negligence.
Allegedly, the worker was hired by a contractor for construction work.
Established under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, NHRC, an autonomous statutory body, is an avatar of India’s concern for promotion and protection of human rights.
Its primary role is to protect and promote human rights, which are defined as life, freedom, equality, and dignity of individuals guaranteed by the Constitution or dignity of individuals applied by courts in India. The apex human rights body has the power to take action on the basis of media reports, public knowledge or other sources without receiving a formal complaint of human rights violations.
