Bhopal, October 7 (IANS) National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of two separate incidents in Madhya Pradesh that raises serious concerns over children’s safety and dignity.
The Commission has issued a notice to senior district officials, demanding a detailed report within two weeks.
The first incident reported from Jhabua district consists of three children suffering from pneumonia, who were reportedly branded with a warm iron rod by a local belief therapist. The shocking thing is that the parents took themselves to the healing, believing in traditional practices on medical treatment.
The doctors later confirmed that the children were actually suffering from pneumonia and boring burn borders on their body. One of the children is said to be in critical condition.
The NHRC said in its initial observation that if the contents of the media report are accurate, they point to serious violations of human rights. A statement by the NHRC stated, “Notices have been sent to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Jhabua, demanding a comprehensive report on the incident, including action taken against Vishwas Heeler and steps being initiated to prevent such practices in future, said in a NHRC statement.
In a separate tragedy, two children aged 8 and 10 lost their lives while playing inside the Durga Puja pandal in Jabalpur district. The incident occurred on 24 September when the children came in contact with an iron pipe, which was given careless wire with electricity by the organizers of the pandal.
The media report published on 25 September inspired the NHRC to intervene.
The Commission has issued notices to Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary and Superintendent of Police, Jabalpur, who demands a detailed report on the leading circumstances for deaths and the status of investigation.
A three -member investigation team led by a sub -divisional magistrate (SDM) has allegedly constituted to investigate the case.
Both incidents have expressed displeasure and underlined the immediate need for strong child protection mechanisms, public awareness and accountability.
NHRC’s intervention indicates a call for systemic reforms and justice for victims, as the dual challenge of combating superstitions in Madhya Pradesh and ensuring security in public places.
