Guwahati, Oct 25 (IANS) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has launched a series of comprehensive and passenger-friendly measures to ensure comfortable, safe and enjoyable festive travel for all, officials said.

NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said major stations like Katihar, New Jalpaiguri, Guwahati, Jogbani and Kishanganj have been beautifully designed with dedicated holding areas equipped with various passenger amenities.

These facilities and amenities include information systems, clean drinking water, toilets, fans and adequate seating arrangements, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for passengers. The CPRO said that proactive crowd management and security arrangements have also been implemented to make the journey smooth and stress-free.

He said that the festive spirit is brought alive with melodious Chhath songs at major stations in Bihar including Katihar, Kishanganj, Barsoi and Jogbani, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere for all the passengers.

At Katihar Railway Station, an NGO has come forward to extend heartfelt support to the passengers waiting in the holding area by serving fresh water and ‘Sarbat’.

Sharma said Divisional Railway Managers across the NFR region personally interacted with passengers, NGO members and railway staff, appreciated their contributions and ensured that the facilities meet the highest standards of passenger convenience.

Passengers thanked NFR for the well-maintained holding areas and facilities, making their wait pleasant and convenient.

To meet the increasing travel demand during Puja, Diwali and Chhath, NFR is operating special festival trains covering 620 journeys on various routes, ensuring seamless and convenient connectivity for passengers across the region.

Every day, more than 200 trains operate through the NFR network, serving thousands of passengers with efficiency and care.

For better security and convenience, additional RPF, GRP and commercial staff are deployed round the clock at stations and trains. Measures like queue management, automated ticket vending machines, real-time CCTV surveillance, drones, Segway scooters and war rooms in divisional offices and headquarters provide 24×7 operational oversight, ensuring a safe journey for every passenger.

The NFR official said that with its unwavering focus on teamwork, vigilance and passenger-first approach, NFR is committed to providing a safe, efficient and delightful travel experience, reflecting the true spirit of the festive season and Indian Railways’ dedication to passenger welfare.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) operates in the northeastern states and seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of North Bihar.
