The newly appointed Lt Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta thanked President Dupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party employees, saying that he would try to fulfill the expectations of the Center.
He was vested by BJP workers in Jammu on Wednesday.
Gupta said, “I thank the President, PM Modi and the party employees who made all this possible and supported me all their life. There are high expectations in the national leadership, and I will try to fulfill those expectations. I want to ask party workers to consider the party and try to implement it in life.”
President Draupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Brigade (DR) BD Mishra (Rit) as Lieutenant Governor of the Central Region of Ladakh and appointed Kavinder Gupta as his successor on 14 July.
BD Mishra is a former Brigadier of the Indian Army and is a former commander of the National Security Guard (NSG) counter hijack force, also known as Black Cat Commandos. After a brilliant career of over 33 years, Mishra retired from the Army on 31 July 1995, and took over as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh on 3 October 2017.
The President of India appointed 85 -year -old Mishra as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh after accepting the resignation of Radha Krishnan Mathur on 12 February 2023. Mishra was earlier the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and was the second LG of Ladakh after Mathur, who served from 31 October 2019 to 11 February 2023.
Kavinder Gupta, who has taken over from BD Mishra, is a senior BJP leader of JK and works as the Deputy CM of the state under the Chief Minister of Mehbooba Mufti.
The appointments will be effective from the date when he accuses his respective offices, the Rashtrapati Bhavan announced on Monday.
The President also appointed Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh as the new Governor of Haryana, and Pusapati Ashok Gajapati Raju as the Governor of Goa. (AI)
