Two days before the deadline set by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) announced the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Under the leadership of Kane Williamson, the Kiwis fielded a star-studded squad, which included Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, etc. While the team was highly anticipated by the cricket fraternity, it was the manner of the announcement that took the cricket and social media world by surprise.

In a video shared on social media, the New Zealand Cricket Board said that they sent two children to the press conference to announce the team. A boy named Angus and a girl named Matilda revealed the names of all the players who have been selected for the T20 World Cup.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead said on the occasion, “I’d like to congratulate everyone nominated today. It’s a special time to represent your country at a world tournament.”

“We expect the West Indies venues to offer quite a variety of conditions and we feel we have selected a team with the scope to adapt to those conditions.”

“Matt has worked exceptionally hard on his skills at all stages of the T20 game to be considered for selection,” Stead said.

Rachin Ravindra, who has impressed everyone with his performances early in his international career, will play for the Kiwis for the first time in the T20 World Cup.

“Rachin has been a winner at every post over the last 12 months and it was exciting to see him continue the same trajectory in the T20 format against Australia over the summer.”
