Guardiola: 2025 will be one of my best years at Manchester City
Guardiola believes 2025 will be one of his best years at Manchester City.
City failed to win a trophy last season after a lackluster campaign, a rarity under the Spaniard, but they are in a strong position approaching the midpoint of the season.
Guardiola felt it was an outstanding performance given the injury problems the club has faced over the past 12 months – particularly with key midfielder Rodri.
“This is one of the best seasons we’ve had as a team, of all seasons with the players who have been there,” said Guardiola, whose side finished third in the Premier League last season and were beaten in the FA Cup final.
“Looking at it now, every time I reflect on what we did last season, I’m more proud than ever of what we did as a club.”
Gary Neville: Manchester United have ‘regressed’
Neville described Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Wolves as “the worst of the worst”.
United could have moved fourth in the Premier League with victory at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, but Wolves ended an 11-game losing streak with just two points from 18 games.
Ruben Amorim’s side were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by second-tier side Grimsby in August, but Neville still feels United have reached new heights in this competition and things would have been much worse for them had it not been for two crucial saves from goalkeeper Sene Lamenz.
“It’s the worst thing,” the former Manchester United captain said on the Gary Neville Podcast. “They’re not just being booed throughout the game. The fans are waiting in the stadium to continue booing them. They’ve gone backwards.”
Kylian Mbappe to miss Spanish Super Cup
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is out for some time with a sprained left knee.
The 27-year-old looks set to miss the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia from January 7 to 11, with L’Equipe reporting that he will be out for “at least three weeks”.
Mbappe may also miss La Liga games against Real Betis (January 4), Levante (January 17), and the Champions League game against his former club Monaco (January 20).
“The Real Madrid medical department today examined our player Kylian Mbappe and was diagnosed with a left knee sprain,” a club statement read. “His progress will be monitored.”
Brazil great Roberto Carlos ‘doing well’ after heart surgery
Former Brazil and Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos says he is on the road to recovery after heart surgery, according to reports in Spain.
The 52-year-old was admitted to hospital in his home country while on holiday, initially to check for a blood clot in his leg, AS reported.
AS said a full-body MRI scan showed his heart was not functioning properly and he subsequently underwent surgery to install a catheter.
Roberto Carlos reportedly told AS that he was “fine” after the surgery, but said he was still under close observation.
