New rules and forms for Aadhaar update introduced: Here’s what you need to know before changing Aadhaar details

As per the January 16 notification, UIDAI has introduced two additional forms for enrolling and updating information in Aadhaar. Specific forms have been provided specifically for Aadhaar enrollment and update processes for residents and non-resident individuals (NRIs).

The amendments implemented by UIDAI are as follows:

UIDAI has unveiled new forms for both enrollment and updating of Aadhaar information.

These forms have been customized to meet the needs of both residents and non-residents (NRIs), with different categories included based on age and address.

The new approach aims to eliminate confusion and simplify the application process.

Two ways to update

Unlike the previous rules, the recent rules provide two convenient ways to update information in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).

Individuals now have the option to either visit the enrollment center or use the official website/mobile application for smooth updates. This represents a deviation from the 2016 rules, which only allowed online address updates.

More clarity with new forms

The existing forms for Aadhaar enrollment and information update have been replaced with new, simplified versions.

Form 1

The revised Form 1, designed for individuals aged 18 years and above, whether resident or non-resident with proof of address in India, has been enhanced to streamline the process and increase clarity in the information provided. Has gone.

nri form

  • Non-resident individuals, especially those with addresses outside India, now have dedicated forms (Form 2 for both nomination and update) introduced for their convenience.
  • NRIs must present a valid Indian passport as proof of identity, and including an email ID is now mandatory.
  • Forms 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 have been introduced to address nominations and updates for children of different age groups, including both residents and NRIs.

The amended rules also cover enrollment of resident foreign nationals above and below 18 years of age through the introduction of Forms 7 and 8 respectively.

Foreign nationals need to submit details like foreign passport, OCI card, valid long term visa and an email ID.

proof of date of birth

A significant change in the amended rules is that documentary proof is required when a person’s age is declared or estimated.

According to UIDAI, this ensures inclusion of complete date of birth on the Aadhaar card, thereby improving accuracy and authenticity.

periodic updates

UIDAI has introduced Form 9, which highlights the need for Aadhaar number holders to update documents or information every decade from the date of generation of Aadhaar.

Its purpose is to secure the ongoing accuracy of information within the central identity data repository.

UIDAI has actively urged individuals to update their Aadhaar details, especially if they have not done so in the last 10 years.
