The company, known for brands like KitKat and Nescafe, said late Monday it was not disease or symptoms related to the recalled batches have been confirmed.

A spokesman confirmed a quality issue was discovered with an ingredient from a leading supplier, prompting Nestlé to test all arachidonic acid oils and corresponding oil blends used in its potentially affected infant nutrition products. The potential risk was traced to one of its factories in the Netherlands.

The toxin in question is Bacillus cereus and is produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus. U.K.of Food Standards Agency The warning says the toxin is “unlikely to be inactivated or destroyed by cooking, using boiling water, or making infant formula.”

It added that if consumed it “may cause the rapid onset of symptoms” including nausea, vomiting or abdominal cramping. However, Norway’s food safety agency said there was no serious health risk.

The Austrian Ministry of Health called the recall the largest in Nestlé’s history and said it affected more than 800 products from more than 10 factories. A Nestlé spokesman could not verify the figures.
