Patna, Oct 14 (IANS) As the BJP announced its first list of candidates for the Bihar assembly elections on Tuesday, party state president Dilip Jaiswal said despite attempts by the opposition to spread rumours, “the NDA is as strong as the Pandavas.” He said the BJP’s swift move in finalizing and announcing its candidate list highlights the NDA’s strategy of “demonstrating unity” and “readiness” ahead of the elections, while the opposition is “still deciding the seat-sharing formula”. BJP released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, announcing names for 71 constituencies, including several prominent leaders and sitting ministers. Prominent candidates include two deputy chief ministers of Bihar – Samrat Chaudhary, who will contest from Tarapur in Munger district, and Vijay Kumar Sinha, who has been fielded from Lakhisarai. Former deputy chief ministers Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi will contest from Katihar and Bettiah in West Champaran district respectively. Speaking to IANS after the announcement, Jaiswal took a dig at the opposition alliance, the Grand Alliance, and praised the unity of the NDA. Jaiswal said, “Many people were asking for the list to be released early, that’s why we are here. First of all, the seat-sharing work by the NDA was completed. While the Grand Alliance was still deliberating, the NDA alliance finalized its seat-sharing. This morning, opposition parties also tried to spread some rumours.” He said that the list of remaining candidates of the party will be released by Wednesday. “As I had mentioned, NDA is like the five Pandavas – a strong alliance. We are ready to form the government with a clear majority under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. We have released the names of 71 candidates and all will be announced by tomorrow,” he said. –IANS sd/dn
