Two rival factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) released a joint manifesto on Saturday, January 10, for the upcoming Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad civic body elections, marking a rare moment of cooperation after the party’s 2023 split.

Ajit Pawar’s NCP and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) factions came together ahead of the January 15 elections. The document was released at a joint press conference in Pune, where Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule shared the stage.

What promises have been made for Pune in the joint manifesto?

Ajit PawaR said the manifesto focuses on everyday civic issues in Pune. The manifesto promises improvements in water supply, road conditions, waste management, traffic, healthcare and housing. It also includes a set of welfare and cost-relief measures involving transport, education and property taxes.

Free Public Transport: Free travel on PMPML buses and Pune Metro for city residents, as well as improved feeder services to reduce private vehicle usage.

water management: Daily tap water supply to all wards, eliminating tanker dependency, sensor-based leak detection and additional water allocation from Tata Mulshi Dam.

Roads: Completing missing links and major road upgrades, with a promise that potholes will be repaired within 72 hours and contractors will not be penalized for delays.

Health care: Expansion of public clinics, increase of hospital beds, low-cost diagnostics and telemedicine services through public-private partnerships.

Accommodation: In-situ slum rehabilitation with time bound completion, protection for existing legal housing and fast regularization processes.

Education:Upgrading government schools, free tablets with data for students and interest-free loans for skill-based self-employment.

Property Relief: Property tax exemption for houses up to 500 square feet from April 2026.

The NCP split in July 2023 when Ajit Pawar joined the Eknath Shinde-led government along with several MLAs, triggering a legal dispute over the party’s name and symbol. Since then, the two factions have been working largely separately.
