Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Srinagar Zone has exposed a major drug smuggling racket in South Kashmir, as well as the arrest of two persons, including a former terrorist and an official statement, seizure of 39 kg poppy poppy.
According to officials, the operation was launched on the basis of specific intelligence input and was carried out on 8 and 9 July in Bijbara area of Anantnag district.
Two arrested persons have been identified as Shabir, who is a resident of Novashera in Srigufwara, and Amin of Kanelwan in Bijbehar.
During the initial raid, the NCB teams recovered about 28 kg of pope straw. Further questions were recovered from Shabir’s residence on 9 July. The investigation stated that Shabir was a former member of the banned outfits Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and had already arrested in 1996 on charges of terror-activities in 2004.
The other accused Amin also has a history of participation in crimes related to drugs. He was booked in the first two NDP cases: one in 2017 at the police station Indora in Himachal Pradesh, and the other was included in the seizure of 523 kg popp straw in Srigufara area of Anantnag. He is currently out on bail in both cases.
NCB officials said the initial conclusions point to a well -organized drug network, which contradicts local poppy tenants and transport it to states using illegal routes.
Efforts are underway to detect both behind the syndicate to destroy the comprehensive network included.
NCB is committed to disrupt the trade and related activities of the drug, protect the youth from its harmful effects and find and ensure strong inter-agency coordination in the center field. (AI)
