‘Navratri Gifts for Kataka farmers’: Center approves the purchase of 5 crops in MSP

20 September (IANS) coming to assist the farmers of New Delhi/Bangalore, Karnataka, the Central Government now as a Navratri gift and in response to the request of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi for Food and Consumer Affairs, Minister Josh approved the purchase of five crops on Saturday (MSP).

“For the Kharif season of 2025-26, the Center has directed the state government to purchase the Green Gram (Hesaru), Black Gram (Uddina), Peanut (Shenga), Soybean, and Sunflower.

In Karnataka, farmers are facing a serious crisis due to heavy rains in this kharif season. To support him, Pralhad Joshi wrote letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, urging the purchase of green village, black village, peanuts, soybeans and sunflowers in the MSP.

Reacting positively to Joshi’s appeal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed immediate relief measures for the farmers of Karnataka. Subsequently, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan rapidly approved and directed that these crops should be purchased in MSP for the benefit of farmers.

Under the MSP scheme for 2025-26, the central government has approved purchase from 38,000 metric tonnes of green grams, 60,810 metric black gram, 15,650 m sunflower, 61,148 meters of peanuts, and 1,15,000 meters of soybean from Karnataka.

The state government should ensure that this MSP relief extended by the Center reaches Karnataka farmers without delay. The procurement centers should be opened immediately in all districts and the purchase process should begin, Joshi has emphasized.

On behalf of the farmers of Karnataka, Minister Pralhad Joshi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who was running away for understanding and assisting the farmers’ crisis.
