Navratri 2025: Sea herd of devotees for Naina Devi Temple, around the mantras of ‘Jai Mata D’

Nainital, 22 September (IANS) On the auspicious occasion of Sharadia Navratri, a sea of ​​devotees thrilled the revered Naina Devi temple in Nainital for early Mondays. As soon as the temple doors opened at 4 am, the mantras of “Jai Mata Di” echoed through the crisp hill wind, established a deep spiritual tone for the day.

The temple complex was beautifully adorned with lively marigold garlands and colorful lights, reflecting the festive feeling of Navratri. Devotees gathered to seek blessings from both local and neighboring areas, offer prayers, and one of the 51 Shaktipeths of India, hold a glimpse of Maa Nina Devi.

According to the temple priest Pandit Ganesh Joshi, the influx of devotees has been important since morning.

The priest told IANS, “The Naina Devi temple has a lot of spiritual significance. It is believed that the left eye of Goddess Sati fell here, which is why the temple is called a power.”

While a steady stream of worshiping throughout the year is seen in the temple, Pandit Joshi said that the number of visitors increases manifold during Navratri.

He said, “Devotion intensifies during these nine days. Special prayers and rituals are held, and the temple vibrates with divine energy,” he said.

The temple will conclude with a grand Durga Puja on Saptami (seventh day) in the temple, followed by a formal city-wide procession of the idol of Goddess Durga on Dashami.

Many devotees believe that Ma Naina Devi has miraculous powers, especially in curing diseases related to the eyes.

Pandit Joshi said, “People with vision problems come here in confidence, and many believe that they return with divine treatment.”

Among the loyal people, Abhishek Raj Pandey was a devotee of Haldwani, who thanked for the wish that he believes that the mother was fulfilled through the grace of the Goddess.

He said, “I created a vow last year, and it came true. That’s why I have returned this Navratri – to thank myself,” he said.

Local resident Parunita Sah commented on an increase in footfall.

“Energy is unmatched here. People from far away are coming, and it seems that the whole city is celebrating as one,” he said.

Another local devotee, Seema Seth, said: “Punjabis, also, have deep reverence for Maa Nana Devi. We come with milk, fruits and offerings, hope to provide our wishes. Faith is unwavering.”
