Navi Mumbai man arrested for raping 15-year-old niece

Police have arrested a man in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai town for allegedly raping his 15-year-old niece, who later became pregnant, an official said on Monday. The 34-year-old accused hails from Nirul in Navi Mumbai and is the girl’s uncle.

Officials from Nerul police station said he allegedly raped the girl on October 4, 2023, at his house. The girl later complained of some health problems and was admitted to a hospital in neighboring Govandi area of ​​Mumbai, where she was found to be pregnant, he said.

The hospital authorities reported the matter to the Nirul police, following which the accused was arrested on Sunday and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, the official said.
