Mumbai, October 3 (IANS) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday that Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) would be named after Lokenet DB Patil.
He said that during his recent meeting, he requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approve the proposal, saying that PM Modi had given positive reactions to the names of Namia in the name of Locate DB Patil, as well as the naming of Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Airport.
The Chief Minister said, “The approval of the Center will soon be received.”
DB Patil played a major role in shaping the development of Navi Mumbai, making the rights of people displaced by land acquisition. He was a prominent leader who led the movement to conserve the interests of farmers and project affected communities.
The Chief Minister said that the state government’s intention of naming NMIA after Locate DB Patil has not changed, and the central government also has no separate approach.
“The Central Government had earlier allowed the construction of the airport with the name ‘Navi Mumbai International Airport’. The name has been expanded, and now it will be ‘Locate DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport’. The airport will be named as per the proposal sent by the state government,”
“When passenger traffic actually starts at the new Mumbai International Airport, an official announcement of ‘Locate DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport’ will definitely be created. During this period of this ‘dry run’, steps will be taken to register air passengers for the next period and prepare technical aspects,” he said.
Fadnavis further said that after Locate DB Patil, the name of Navi Mumbai International Airport has been passed by both the Houses of the Legislature, and the state cabinet has already decided and sent a proposal to the central government.
He said, “A fixed policy is being set at the central government level for such nomenclature. Therefore, it is taking time. According to the new policy, the airport will be nominated soon.”
Fadnavis said that the government has also made a proposal in the name of the current Pune Airport.
He said, “All three proposals, including NMIA, are under the view of the Central Government, and will be approved soon as per the demand of the state government and as per the new policy. Similar proposals are also waiting for approval in other states as well,” he commented.
In addition, the Chief Minister announced that registered cases against protesters would be withdrawn for naming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Instructions will be given to cancel these cases so that the crimes committed in this protest have no difficulty in getting a job at the airport. In addition, since the above protests took place during the Kovid period, some protesters have registered cases against them under the Kovid provisions, and as per the rules, action will be taken to withdraw such cases with the permission of the court, he said.
