Lucknow, Nov 7 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday compared government employees serving people during the pandemic to freedom fighters and claimed they all took inspiration from the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ to follow the spirit of ‘Nation First’.
Participating in the program of mass singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ on the 150th anniversary, CM Yogi said that just as this song inspired the freedom fighters to fight the colonial rulers, similarly the leadership during Covid-19 inspired the workers to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation.
“The spirit of selfless service and dedication shown by government employees during Covid was no less than the spirit seen in the freedom fighters who sang the song a century ago,” the Chief Minister said.
He said that during Covid, the government, administration and every employee, including the low-paid ones, were driven by a determination to end the pandemic and find a cure.
He said, “All this was due to leadership that was sensitive and responsive to India, Indianness and its citizens.”

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leading the country to celebrate the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’, he said, “This day is extremely important for all of us… ‘Vande Mataram’ has become the immortal mantra of India’s independence.”
He said, “During that time, regardless of the countless tortures and oppression inflicted by the foreign regime, every citizen and revolutionary of India joined the campaign of awakening the collective consciousness of India through village-to-village, city-to-city Prabhat Pheris with the song ‘Vande Mataram’.”
He said, ‘Vande Mataram’ is a mantra representing the collective expression of entire India which binds the entire country in the thread of unity, through which a person can rise above caste, creed and religion and think about his nation as well.
