Naseeruddin Shah slams Hindi cinema, urges producers to put art over money: ‘I don’t like…’

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah recently attended an event and shared his disappointment with Hindi films. He believes that Hindi cinema can progress only if filmmakers focus on creativity and not just making money. Shah also criticized the repetitive nature of films produced over the past century. He mentioned that he had stopped watching movies because he didn’t like the current trend and was disappointed with the lack of substance. Shah asked why the rich history of Hindi cinema is being celebrated in the absence of innovation and touched on the concern that audiences will soon lose interest in the same old stories.

“We are proud to say that Hindi cinema is 100 years old but we keep making the same films and that really disappoints me. I have stopped watching Hindi films, I don’t like them at all, “He said.

The veteran actor also shared some advice to filmmakers. He said Hindi cinema can regain its former glory only if filmmakers stop focusing solely on making money. He suggested that serious filmmakers should depict today’s reality responsibly to avoid legal trouble or controversy. “There is hope for Hindi films only if we stop seeing them as a means to make money. But I feel it is too late now. There is no solution anymore because films watched by thousands will continue to be made and people Will continue to watch them and God knows when. So those who want to make serious films, they have a responsibility to show today’s reality and do it in a way that doesn’t get a fatwa or the Ministry of Education doesn’t come knocking Their door,” Shah added.

On the work front, Naseeruddin Shah will be seen in the show Showtime along with Emraan Hashmi, Mahima Makwana, Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Vijay Raaz and Shriya Saran. The show will air on Disney + Hotstar and will be directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar. Showtime will delve into the untold world behind the camera.
