Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal on Wednesday sought permission from a special court to allow his family to visit him at the hospital where he is undergoing cancer treatment.
In an application before special judge MG Deshpande, Naresh Goyal also sought permission from the court to use personal attendant services.
The court has directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to respond to Naresh Goyal’s plea and adjourned the case to March 15.
Naresh Goyal, who was arrested in a money laundering case, is undergoing treatment at a local private hospital.
Last month, the court refused to grant him interim bail on health grounds after finding his cancer was in its early stages and “not life-threatening”.
However, it allowed the 74-year-old businessman to undergo two months of cancer treatment at a hospital of his choice.
“Neither the private physician nor the medical board has concluded at this time that the disease is life-threatening. Furthermore, the accused (Goyal) does not exhibit any worrisome symptoms of his health,” the order said.
It added that with prompt and appropriate treatment, aggressive recovery and complete eradication of the tumor is possible.
Naresh Goyal was arrested in September 2023 by the ED, which alleged that he laundered and misappropriated Rs 538.62 crore provided by Canara Bank to Jet Airways loan.
The money laundering case stems from a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR against Jet Airways, Naresh Goyal, his wife Anita and the now-grounded airline A number of former executives are under investigation for alleged bank fraud.
