Bhubaneswar, 17 September (IANS) On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birth anniversary, Odisha on Wednesday achieved a historic achievement by planting about Rs 1.5 crore in just 12 hours under the ‘Name of a paid mother – 2.0’ initiative.
In an official statement, the Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change called this achievement a historical and unprecedented achievement, which has attracted the attention of the world.

From the construction of the iconic Konark Sun Temple to the establishment of a world record in the environmental activism now, the people of Odisha have once again proved their extraordinary ability. This monumental incident was done under the banner of ‘a paid mother’s name – 2.0’ campaign, which is in memory of PM Modi’s 75th birthday.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had called upon the people to plant 75 lakh saplings between sunrise and sunset. The reaction was heavy, with a plant of about 1.5 million, planted in only half a day, crossing the target. Until 4.30 pm on Wednesday, Odisha not only achieved a shocking number of gardens, but also secured the world records. A large -scale tree plantation drive saw active participation from major government departments, officials, NGOs, Panchayat Blocks and District Headquarters. Citizens from across the state were also encouraged to participate in this initiative, the campaign was converted into a true people’s movement.
Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singhantia expressed his heartfelt gratitude and said that Odisha is constantly vow to rich forests, active in shadow, active in permanent life.
To keep Odisha’s achievement in perspective, the previous records were organized by Madhya Pradesh with 11 lakh plants in a day and 9.26 lakh saplings with Assam.
The incredible achievement of Odisha exceeds them so far, setting a new human record that will inspire generations to come. While the numbers are impressive, Minister Singuntia emphasized that the big vision matters the most-the creation of a cleaner, greenery, more beautiful, rich and self-reliant Odisha for the future generations.
In a remarkable performance of environmental commitment, a total of 1,49,11,339 has been planted in 30 districts by 4.30 pm, this massive effort extends to 71,924 plantation sites, which highlights an important drive towards afforestation and ecological restoration in the state.
Sundergarh district leads the plantation drive with an impressive 14,21,618 transplanting. Following closeness, Koraput finished second with 11,01,624 seedlings, while Kenjhar is third with 10,42,927 seedlings. In the fourth and fifth places, the Mayurbhanj and Kalahandi districts go, who have planted 9,17,659 and 7,67,510 respectively. At the bottom of the list, Deogarh recorded at least plantation with 1,31,885 transplanting till 4:30 pm
