Srinagar, Nov 19 (IANS) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, along with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Wednesday participated in the Nagar Kirtan organized to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur.
The Nagar Kirtan, which started from Gurdwara Chheven Patshahi here, will reach Gurdwara Sri Sis Ganj Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, Punjab on Saturday after stopping at Pathankot and Hoshiarpur.
The Chief Minister and AAP convenor said that it is a historic occasion as we all are celebrating the 350th martyrdom day of the ninth Sikh Guru, who made the supreme sacrifice for humanity.
“We are all very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be a part of these historic events in our lifetime,” he said.
Kejriwal and CM Mann said that God has abundantly blessed the state government to complete this huge task and no stone will be left unturned for this noble cause.
He called upon the people to follow the path shown to humanity by the great Guru Sahib. He said that the government is committed to celebrate this sacred occasion in a unique and befitting manner.
The leaders called upon the people to embrace the ideology of the Guru, who has emerged as a unifying force binding the entire country into an unbreakable social fabric.
He reminded the people of the Guru’s unique contribution in upholding the age-old traditions of secularism, besides protecting human rights and ensuring religious freedom, for which he sacrificed his life.
Kejriwal and CM Mann said that the state government has made elaborate arrangements to ensure that befitting tribute is paid to the great Guru Sahib on this holy occasion.
The leaders said they were “deeply impressed” by the devotion and dedication displayed by the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir.
He especially thanked Chief Minister Abdullah for making this historic event a reality. He said that this is indeed a proud moment for the entire Sikh community and the brothers of Jammu and Kashmir, who deserve special thanks and congratulations for this.
