Srinagar, 30 July: The mutton crisis in Kashmir deepened on Wednesday as the strike by mutton dealers entered its fifth consecutive day, trigger the lack of supply in the markets and increased the alarm among the families preparing for the wedding ceremony.
The strike led by the Mutton Dealers Association of Kashmir has brought meat supply to beyond the valley.
General Secretary, Mutton Dealers Association, Mehrajuddin Ganai criticized the government for failing to address the main issues faced by dealers in Punjab. “We tried to reach the authorities in Punjab, but no one is ready to listen to us. Our transporters and dealers are facing forcible recovery, dangers and harassment on highways. The officials have blindly turned their eyes.”
Dealers claim that despite paying all taxes and duties, they are being arbitrarily stopped and excluded while transporting livestock from Punjab to Kashmir. A protesting dealer said, “We are not asking for favor, there is a fair and safe system to complete our business.”
At the time of the strike, there has been an increase in concerns by increasing the speed of the wedding season of Kashmir. “If the strike continues, it will directly affect the wedding functions. Mutton is essential for traditional Wajwan. This disruption is unbearable,” a Srinagar -based cactor said that who is afraid of mass cancellation.
Meanwhile, a three -member committee constituted by the government to talk to the Punjab government has not left for Punjab.
