The state Cabinet on Friday approved the Assam Repeal Ordinance, 2024, to repeal the British-era Marriage and Divorce Act specific to Muslims.

Addressing the media in Nagaon, Chief Minister Sarma said that his government will launch another campaign against child marriage in the state after the Lok Sabha elections.

“With this bill, the atrocities and exploitation that have been going on against Muslim mothers for a long time will end. The Prime Minister has abolished triple talaq. While talking about the Congress Party, the Chief Minister of Assam said that only a few people (MLAs) will stay in Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.
