Musk predicts Trump re-election ‘landslide victory’ if indicted

Elon Musk believes Donald Trump will be re-elected with a “landslide victory” if he is arrested and indicted on criminal charges. The Twitter CEO offered his view after the Republican candidate said he expects to be detained on Tuesday in a call for mass protests around the US.

Prosecutors have been considering an indictment for Trump based on alleged hush money paid by his lawyer to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

If indicted, it would be the first criminal case in history to be brought against a former US president.

Responding to reports suggesting the 76-year-old could be handcuffed next week, Musk wrote on Twitter: “If this happens, Trump will be re-elected in a landslide victory.”

Trump has previously faced two impeachment trials, a probe into Russia interference and an FBI raid at his Mar-a-Lago over classified files, though has never been found of wrongdoing.

Last week, Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, said he predicts an indictment is now “imminent”.

And there was another twist on Saturday when the ex-POTUS and 2024 presidential hopeful announced his imminent arrest.

In an appeal to backers on Truth Social, he raged against “illegal leaks from a corrupt & highly political Manhattan District Attorney’s office”.

He said that “with no crime being able to be proven, & based on an old & fully debunked fairytale”, he will be detained on Tuesday.

“Protest, take our nation back!” he told supporters, in what will give some flashbacks to the 2021 rally dubbed ‘Stop The Steal’ which led to the storming of the Capitol.

The Manhattan District Attorney has not confirmed if Trump will be arrested and the specific charge, if it is to occur, is not clear.

Trump was banned from Twitter for “the risk of further incitement of violence” following the deadly insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6.

Trump stated that he will not be attending the inauguration and referred to his supporters as “American Patriots,” saying they will have “a GIANT VOICE long into the future.”

Musk restored his profile after a poll in November, however the Republican continues to use Truth Social as his main platform.

A Trump spokesperson yesterday told Express.co.uk that the ex-POTUS is the victim of a “witch-hunt”.

They added: “President Trump is rightfully highlighting his innocence and the weaponization of our injustice system.

“He will be in Texas next weekend for a giant rally. Make America Great Again!”

Express.co.uk has also contacted the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for comment.
