Mumbai Police officer, depressed due to illness, dies by suicide: Police

Mumbai:

A 42-year-old assistant police inspector (API), who was suffering from depression, died by suicide in suburban Kalina on Tuesday evening, an official said.

According to a Vakola police station official, the API, identified as Prahlad Bansode, hanged himself on the terrace of a building housing the police quarters.

Mr Bansode, who hailed from Jalgaon in northern Maharashtra, was attached to the Mumbai Police’s Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and was posted in the metropolis for the last two years, he said.

The officer said that the police did not find any suicide note from the spot, but the wife of the deceased policeman gave a statement that her husband was depressed due to some illness.

He said that based on primary information, the police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case.
