New Delhi, October 9 (IANS) Mumbai’s CBI court has convicted and sentenced an accused in an insurance fraud case of Rs 25 lakh.
According to CBI, the accused is named Praveen Dagha, owner of M/s Praveen & Company, Navi Mumbai and on October 9, 2025, the CBI court convicted him in an insurance fraud case and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for a term of four years and to pay a fine of Rs 25,00,000/-.
A case was registered against the accused by CBI, ACB, Mumbai on March 28, 2018, for dishonestly obtaining false claims of more than Rs 21 lakh in connivance with other officials of the National Insurance Company, the agency said in its press note issued on Thursday.
“The instant case was registered by CBI, ACB, Mumbai on March 28, 2018, alleging that Praveen Dagha, proprietor of M/s Praveen & Co., having office cum warehouse located at Kurla (West) Mumbai, during the period 2010-2011, in connivance with officials of National Insurance Company, Mumbai and unknown others, fraudulently and dishonestly submitted forged documents and obtained false claims of Rs. Standard Fire. And Special Perils Rs 21,96,174/- from National Insurance Company Limited (NICL), Mumbai under the policy, the agency said.
After the conclusion of this meeting, CBI filed charge sheet against the above accused and three officials of NICL on December 29, 2018.
CBI further said that after the trial, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him to four years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,00,000, while the three public officials of NICL have been acquitted of all charges.
This reflects CBI’s consistent efforts to nab those officers who abuse their position to gain money through dishonest means by targeting innocent customers.
