Suryakumar Yadav’s special century after a disciplined bowling effort led Mumbai Indians to a seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024 on Monday. Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 102 runs in 51 balls for his second IPL century and led his team to an emphatic win in 17.2 overs. SRH scored 173 runs for eight wickets. The win lifted Mumbai Indians from bottom to ninth on the points table, while despite the loss, SRH remained fourth with 12 points from 11 matches. After MI were reduced to 31 runs for three wickets inside the powerplay, the pair of Suryakumar and Tilak Verma (37 not out from 32 balls) made a brilliant recovery with an unbeaten partnership of 143 runs and registered a comprehensive win. Suryakumar’s sensational innings included 12 fours and half a dozen sixes.

For that matter, MI could have been reduced to 31/4 had Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s ball not pitched outside leg stump in the fifth over and the experienced seamer had Verma pinned in front of the wickets.

Ishan Kishan (9) was once again out early while Naman Dheer (0) was out for a duck in nine balls.

With his back against the wall, Suryakumar chose Marco Jansen to attack and began his work, collecting 22 runs in the seventh over with two sixes and two fours.

But soon after completing his half-century off 30 balls, Suryakumar was seen writhing in pain, possibly with a groin strain – which is why he was away from cricket for almost four months since the end of last year.

However, to his credit, the world No. 1 T20 batsman hung on till the end to take MI over the line and he finished the game with two sixes and as many fours off his last four balls.

Apart from Suryakumar’s struggles with the bat, Rohit Sharma’s decline in form also came to the fore as the India skipper mistimed his wicket for just four runs – his fourth score in single figures in the last five matches this IPL. .

Earlier in the first half, Pandya was in pre-T20 World Cup form while the experienced Chawla also grabbed three wickets as Mumbai Indians restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to a lower-than-usual score.

Pandya found rhythm and pace and returned 4-0-31-3, while Chawla (4-0-33-3) produced an impressive performance to trouble the SRH batsmen.

However, to their credit, SRH skipper Pat Cummins scored 35 off 17 balls (2x4s, 2x6s) at the end of the innings to take them past 150.

Unlike the last time these teams met earlier in this IPL, when SRH scored 277/3, their usually free-flowing batsmen struggled for pace and a lack of initiative meant they never got going. Could not trouble Mumbai bowlers.

Travis Head scored the highest score of 48 runs while captain Pat Cummins played a quick inning of 35 not out in 17 balls.
